Quin’s English -

English for adult Bulgarians in Bulgaria

“Куинс Инглиш” -

Английски език за възрастни Българи в България

Quin’s English offers innovative English training to adults in Bulgaria for law and legal purposes, for business, other special purposes and indeed for anyone wanting to improve their use of natural and effective English.

Who is Quin’s English?

Principal Frank Quin is a New Zealander and hence a native-English speaker.  He has a graduate and a post-graduate degree in law from New Zealand and the TESOL certificate from Trinity College London.

Frank was for a number of years in private legal practice in New Zealand, including 10 years as a commercial law partner of leading New Zealand law firm Russell McVeagh.  Prior to private legal practice, he spent 13 years in the New Zealand Police, including eight years as a legal adviser.  Since moving to Europe in 1999, he has provided legal and business consultancy services in the private sector.

Frank’s long-standing interest in the English language and the learning of English by speakers of other languages led to the formation of Quin’s English late in 2007.

Did you know?

That the expression “Queen’s English” means, more or less, the proper English as spoken by educated people in England and not only by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second!  Though, these days there’s really no such thing as the “Queen’s English”, since all kinds of influence have come into the language in the modern, technological age.
And did you know that the “Queen’s English” is not to be confused with “Quin’s English”?  “Queen” is the name for the female head of a monarchy (as well as of a really good rock group!) and “Quin” is a family name from Ireland.
But when transliterated (converted by sound) into Bulgarian, they are the same – “Куинс Инглиш”.  Because Bulgarian doesn’t have an equivalent sound to the letter ”i” in “Quin”, it substitutes with “и”.  But one variant means “English of the Queen” and the other means “English of Quin”!  So, since Bulgarian also doesn’t have the equivalent of “-’s” to make the possessive adjectival form of a noun, we could perhaps use “Английския на кралицата” for “the Queen’s English” and “Английския на Куин” for “Quin’s English”.
Or maybe we could use “Кралския английски” for “the Queen’s English” and “Куинов английски” for “Quin’s English”.  :)
As the song says (it’s not a Queen song), nobody said it was easy.  So let’s just use “Куинс Инглиш” – it’s as good as the Queen’s and it’s the English for you!
